K-5 Lessons

January

Teaching students about cultures around the world can help bring them perspective and an expanded world-view. This bright and lively tiger art lesson also offers students an additional opportunity to look within themselves to think about how they’d like to embrace the adventurous spirit of the year of the tiger.

January
Students can make an “About Me” collage and writing. Students could either take pictures themselves or use magazines to cut out words, phrases, and/or pictures that they identify with. For the writing portion, teachers could use age-appropriate strategies/lessons that they are currently working on.

February
The students can choose a historical figure that goes along with black history month and read about them. Then they can write about how they had to persevere to attain goals. They can even write a comparative paper on the differences and similarities to obstacles people face then and now.

To make a more physical lesson/activity, an obstacle course could be set up using things from the Catch PE program, and the students will have to complete the obstacle course and discuss or write about how and if they had to persevere to reach the end.
